Mary Johnson-Green

I was born on the west coast of Scotland, but migrated south with my family to Yorkshire with my fathers’ work. I spent an idyllic childhood, mostly in Scarborough, studied art to ‘A level’ at school, with art school in mind, but instead went into nursing.

I returned to active painting and drawing in 1992 when I joined Farsley Art Club. Soon after I resumed my art education through part time further education courses, which were then an affordable option, notably in the life classes of Emerson Mayes, www.emersonmayes.co.uk at Leeds Metropolitan University,
and lessons in oils with Geraldine Thompson at Featherbank.
I have been painting and drawing with a life drawing group in Leeds called the "Saturday People" www.saturdaypeople.org.uk, since 2004  and enjoy the experience of painting in a disciplined way.

A recent holiday in Australia included a visit to Strathalbyn where I stayed at a delightful B&B run by working artist Helen Stacey.
Her work can be viewed by visiting www.helenstacey.com.au. Helen sparked my interest in silk painting, and I have added this to the range of media I currently use.
